Title: The Green Wizard’s Guide
Author: Ron Neitzel

“Yes, I am trying to tell you that everything about your yard starts with the ground and below,” Ron Neitzel writes in the second chapter of his book, The Green Wizard’s Guide.

~ What ~
This one-hundred-and-sixteen-page paperback targets those who want to learn more about having a pristine lawn and yard so they can be the envy of the neighborhood. After an introduction, the book is divided into fourteen chapters that cover the topic. With highlighted sections and lists, it ends with an author’s note, acknowledgments, and the author’s biography.

This short read spells out how to use natural remedies, soil strategies, and low-cost concoctions to grow an amazing yard and nutritious garden without using poisonous chemicals. After a welcome, the book is written with slapstick comments while providing tips, recipes, potions, suggestions, mistakes, and help maintaining healthy ground for plants.

~Why ~
This is a quirky read that teaches how to become a green wizard gardener. It includes the writer’s personal adventures of converting hard, clay-soil dirt into worm-filled, lush-leafed plants that require less time, effort, and ongoing attention. I appreciated learning about the use of Epsom salts, corn gluten, beer, molasses, skim milk, rock dust, and garlic and how they can beautify the yard.

~ Why Not ~
Some may not be interested in reading a book about natural ways to enhance a yard as they prefer paying someone to dump toxic chemicals on it periodically. Others may tire of the inserted nonsensical wizardry that is added as fluff to the writing.

~ Wish ~
Although the book is a light-hearted, sometimes silly read, all the information could be surmised on a single, one-sided page of college-rule paper. Including a topical index may be thoughtful.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a healthy, inexpensive way to improve the soil in your yard and don’t mind reading through added mystical powers of wizards, you may become the one on the block with the secrets to having an incredible lawn.
