Quote ~ “South Africa may be at the end of the world but is worth the journey as it offers a bit of everything. It has spectacular scenery and wonderful wildlife viewing with more safari options than most other places in Africa permit, such as wildlife safaris on elephant back, in a hot-air balloon, open jeep, on foot (which is not the same as bush walks), by boat or in a canoe.”

Audience ~ This e-book that is also available in paperback targets those interested in the country of South Africa, especially if they plan to visit or want to learn more about its many attractions, features, and culture.

Contents ~ After an introduction, fast facts, historical timeline, and list of best beaches, there are over seventy pages covering five regions of South Africa: Cape Town, Western, Eastern, and Northern Cape, and other areas. Chapters are included on safaris, important information, a sample itinerary, resources, special dates and events, a quiz, and thirty pages of color photographs. It ends with other books written by the author and a helpful index. With a blend of pictures and simplistic art icons, it is generally easy to look up needed material quickly.

Author ~ Having traveled and lived all over the world, Terrance Zepke looks forward to her visits to South Africa, always amazed by its people, topography, and wildlife. Freelance writer, photographer, and travel agent, she enjoys helping others make their vacations memorable without repeating her “misadventures.”

Synopsis ~ Beginning with a map and the country’s size, population, language, and currency, tips are given on how best to get there, when to travel, average temperatures, and budgeting. Promoting its long wine route, variety of wildlife, and biggest theme resort, also added are natural and manmade attractions.

After a short history and land features, the five regions are discussed in detail, suggesting top five “must dos,” favorite restaurants, and highlights. Another interesting section is the safaris with the recommendation of not visiting it on your own. What to pack, food options, and how to speak like a local are added benefits.

Pros ~ Having location descriptions of attractions and animals to view are helpful to a new person traveling to South Africa. The information is easy-to-understand, offering tips and advice on many topics.

Cons ~ Although hotels/resorts and dining are mentioned sporadically in the five areas, there are no headings listing in the index unless by name, not topic.

Opinion ~ If your next adventure is to the county of South Africa, this handy pocket guide is a resourceful tool by advising what to expect, where to go, what to see, and how to enjoy your trip.
