Prayers for You

Title: Prayers for You
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
ISBN: 978-0-7180-7512-5

Prayers for You is a beautiful celebration of the fact that God wants you to talk to Him every day, all the time,” the book states in its introduction.

~ What ~
At one-hundred-and-forty-four pages, this small hardbound targets those who want a source of written prayers. Using the Contemporary English Version of the Holy Bible, the ESV, KJV, NABRE, NASB, NCV, NIV, NKJV, NLT, and The Voice are used. With a presentation page and introduction, the book includes an attached blue ribbon marker.

Using colored photographs, patterns, and design, mostly dark blue or white writing of prayers cover both sides of the pages. The prayers may be written out Bible verses or quoted prayers by famous individuals such as Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Horatius Bonar, Fanny Crosby, Francois Fenelon, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Brother Lawrence, Martin Luther, Charles Spurgeon, St. Teresa of Avila, and Hammer William Webb-Peploe to name a few.

~ Why ~
I like prayers that focus on God and what He has done for us, not what we want or need from Him, and this book mostly does that. The prayers with the blue color theme are short and to the point, usually only on one page.

One example I enjoyed is by Alistair Begg: Prayer is an acknowledgment that our need of God’s help is not partial but total.

~ Why Not ~
Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus may not be interested in this book. Others may think the contents are not in depth and are too short, with few being anonymous. Some may want to pray to God their own way and not need a book like this.

~ Wish ~
I wish the book included a ribbon marker. I prefer using the King James Version Bible. It would be helpful at the end to include a list of quoted people and page numbers.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a thoughtful gift for someone who wants to focus on praying or read other people’s prayers, this would make a nice choice.
