“Angels have missions and big jobs to do. Right now, one might even be helping you!” Wanda Carter Rouch rhymes in her children’s book, Angel on Assignment: An Elf Alternative.

~ What ~
This over-sized numbered twenty-four-page paperback targets children ages four to eight years old who enjoy books about angels. With no scary scenes except maybe a man following a little boy at night, the rhymes contain some complicated wording for beginner readers. Colorful and expressive detailed illustrations cover almost all pages with black writing overlapping them. The ending includes instructions on how to make an angel craft.

This book contains four lines on almost all the pages with two lines each that rhymes per page. Focusing on God’s angels, the story conveys how these heavenly creatures appeared to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds as well as were at Jesus’s birth and resurrection. Explaining what angels do for us, it highlights their protection of us and excitement when someone believes in Christ and how we should act like them.

~ Why ~
I like that this book reiterates God created the angels for our protection and comfort. The story promotes being aware of angels being around us at all times. The pictures are detailed enough to keep the attention if read out loud to a young child.

~ Why Not ~
Those who do not believe in God and His angels will avoid this book. Due to some of the complicated wording, it would best be read out loud to some children as it may frustrate some readers. Beginner readers may struggle with some of the three-syllable words.

~ Wish ~
I hope children will not consider angelic beings more important than Christ by reading this book that states we should be like them in helping others in need or saying a kind word or doing a good deed. It should be added when reading this one to a young one that we should be more like Jesus, not the angels He created.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a cute book about angels and their mission in our lives, this may be a good choice.

I am under no obligation to review this complimentary book.
