You Know Your a Mom

Title: You Know You’re a Mom
Author: Harry H. Harrison Jr.
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
ISBN: 978-0-7180-8967-2

“There’s only one way to explain the craziness of it all … you’re a mom,” Harry H. Harrison Jr. explains in the introduction of his book, You Know You’re a Mom: A Book for Moms who Spend Saturdays at the Soccer Field Instead of the Spa.

~ What ~
At two-hundred-and-two pages, this small hardbound targets mothers who need some clean, comic yet sometimes profound relief as they raise their children. Focusing on being a pregnant mother to dealing with an adult child, a wide range of topics is covered.

After a presentation page to fill in, the book is divided into seven chapters with themes regarding pregnancy, newborns, toddlers, school-age children, working moms, teenagers, and adult children, there are short one to two sentences that look at the lighter side of parenthood.

~ Why ~
Having two daughters-in-laws, both might enjoy a book that reminds them of the funny aspects of raising our grandchildren. I like that this book can bring a smile to any mother who has a child or children. Occasionally mentioning God is appreciated.

Some comical lines I enjoyed from each chapter include:
Pregnant – Suddenly it hits you – you’re carrying a child of God.
Infant – You give the pacifier a name.
Toddler – Everything you own is mysteriously sticky.
School Age – You are the only one in the family to believe combed hair is important.
Working Mom – You have spit-up down the back of your dress.
Teenager – You hug your child after a fight. Even if he or she is still mad.
Adult Child – You wonder if your twenty-five-year-old kids will ever get married.

~ Why Not ~
Since the book is written by a man, not woman, some mothers may not pick it up, but it is surprisingly apropos even though a male wrote it.

~ Who ~
A bestselling author, Harrison has sold over three-and-a-half million books that are mainly nonfiction.

~ Wish ~
I wish this book included a Bible verse or two in each chapter.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a cute and clever gift for Mother’s Day or as a baby shower present for a mother-to-be, this would be a thoughtful gift.

Thanks to Book Look Bloggers for this complimentary book that I am reviewing freely.
