Title: The Stage is Set
Author: Bryant Wright
Publisher: Baker Books
“Did you know that prophesied events leading up to Armageddon are happening right before our eyes in Israel at this very hour?” Bryant Wright asks in his book, The Stage is Set: Israel, the End Times, and Christ’s Ultimate Victory.
~ What ~
This two-hundred-and-forty-page paperback targets those interested in the end times relating to the Bible. Containing topics of abuse, hardship, death, and hell may not be appropriate for young readers. After an introduction, twenty-three chapters discuss the future, ending with an epilogue, acknowledgments, and notes. The New American Standard Bible is referenced.
In this up-to-date book, the author correlates written out verses from the Bible of the apostasy of the church, the rise and supernatural power of the Antichrist as he re-establishes the Roman Empire and the abomination of desolation. After the rapture has occurred, the battle of Armageddon at Mount Megiddo and the triumphant return of Christ are examined. Also discussed are the false prophet, four rapture theories, replacement theology, Islam, anti-Semitism, Israel’s feasts, and the millennial reign to name a few.
~ Why ~
As our world becomes more chaotic, this timely book covers upcoming future details of what happens before Jesus returns to earth to establish His kingdom. Having each chapter with bolded titles and verses from the Bible books such as Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah, and Revelation, it is easy to read and understand. Both my husband and I read it and found it mostly Biblically sound while explaining the many differences and histories of end time interpretations. I liked that it often asked the reader if they believed the plan of eternal salvation.
~ Why Not ~
Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will not appreciate this book that focuses on eternity. Those who do not believe in the future rapture, the tribulation of the world, and the second coming of our Lord may not understand its contents. Although the writer is a mid-tribulation believer in the rapture, his wife is like me, a pre-trib thinker.
~ Who ~
The author of six books, Bright was past president of the Southern Baptist Convention and is a pastor in Georgia. His teachings are broadcasted on sixty-six radio stations in two states. He has led sixteen trips of Bible study tours in Israel and the Middle East.
~ Wish ~
I wish the book included an index so topics could be looked up quickly as I do not recall reading about the New Jerusalem coming down from Heaven that is mentioned in Revelation 21:2. More details on the rapture would be helpful such as non-believers being able to hear the shout and trumpet sound or not. I wish all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for a somewhat in-depth study of the end-times timeline, this is a quick read that is organized and informative, especially for new believers or those looking for Christ’s coming.
