~ What ~
At four-hundred-and-sixteen-pages, this leather-bound book targets men and women seeking a daily devotional about God’s grace and love. Using mainly the New Century Version of the Holy Bible, also referenced are the NASB, NIV, KJV, TLB, NKJV, RSV, TJB, NEB, TEV, NLT, Phillips, and The Message. After a preface and three pages of “I Choose” declarations, a devotion is for every day of the year, followed by acknowledgments that include the author’s quoted material and advertisements. A satin ribbon is attached for keeping one’s place reading.
In this daily devotional, it is divided into twelve sections with a double-sided page dedicated to each month and including at least two different written out Bible verse selections Each day’s devotion covers one page and has a title along with a written out Bible verse. There are several paragraphs summarizing the verse and how it applies to us today regarding God’s grace or love. The bottom lists the author’s quoted material.
My husband has been asking for a short and quick devotional to read with his daily Bible reading, and this one concentrates on God’s love and abundant grace. I like that the day’s devotion can be read in mere minutes and is to the point, not mentioning the writer’s personal experiences as so many others do. The leather cover is attractive and classic.
One example I enjoyed is October 7th titled Time Slips By with Galatians 6:16 written out. The sentences discuss how our vision should improve as we get older by focusing on our vision of heaven, not here on earth. A quote from the artist Michelangelo is mentioned, referencing to not wasting time as it slips away.
~ Why Not ~
Some readers may not like that these are reprinted from other material written by the author throughout the years. The topics are not in-depth and do not always mention God. There is no prayer at the end of the devotional like other daily ones include.
~ Who ~
Well-known for his many spiritual and inspirational books and sermons, Lucado has reached over one-hundred-and-twenty million readers. He and his wife live in Texas.
~ Wish ~
I wish an index by Bible verses were included at the back of the book so one could look up that verse and its daily reading. Including a prayer would be a thoughtful touch to complete the read.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for a daily devotional that as quick and short but not too in depth Biblically, this would make a nice gift for a loved one or self. Its cover is beautiful so makes a nice coffee table or nightstand book.
