“The wonders of the created world filled with the hues of your imagination,” the back jacket states of the book, NIV The Wonders of Creations Holy Bible.

~ What ~
This eleven-hundred-fifty-two-page hardbound targets children eight years and older looking for a Bible to call their own (third-grade reading level recommended). Using the New International Version of the Holy Bible, it has fifty black-and-white illustrations that can be colored spread throughout its pages. Being the Word of God with some frightening and scary situations, some young children should be cautioned. It would best be read out loud to beginner readers due to some of the complicated three syllable words.

While this is the NIV Bible, added are fifty drawings of animals, insects, and sea creatures with some floral designs that are on card stock mixed with thinly printed pages. Incorporated with the illustrations are written out Bible verses and an attached red ribbon marker.

~ Why ~
Every child should have a Bible. For children who like to read and draw, this is one way to “be in the Bible” to some degree. The drawings can be filled with colored pencils or gel pens. I like the many different animals included in the fanciful artworks such as an iguana, hen, squid, moose, sheep, turtle, or walrus to name a few.

~ Why Not ~
Those who do not believe in God may not be interested in the Holy Bible. Some children may prefer to color instead of read the Scriptures, especially during church or Sunday school, taking their mind off the Word of God or what they are being taught. The paper printed of verses is thin, so the words show through to the other side. While crayons may be too thick, watercolors and some gel pens may bleed through the pages. Some of the drawings cover both sides of the opened book.

~ Who ~
No information is given on the illustrator.

~ Wish ~
As a child, I was not allowed to write in my Bible so I wonder how other children may react. I wish the picture pages were perforated so they could be removed and framed if wanted.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a Bible for a child who is more visual than one who reads and likes to draw and color, this may be a thoughtful gift that promotes the Word of God.

Thanks to Zondervan for this complimentary book that I am freely evaluating.
