“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” quotes Luke 2:14 NJKV in the center of a wreath design in Robin Mead’s book, A Very Blessed Christmas Coloring Book.
~ What ~
This ninety-six-page oversized paperback targets both young and old whose creativity and artistic interests enjoy focusing on Christmas. The book contains black and white drawings on both sides of the pages including seven holiday craft cutouts at the back of the book. With a few Bible verses printed within the drawings, the versions used are the KJV, NIV, NLT, and NKJV.
Colorists can fill the pages of simple to complex drawings while relieving stress and doodling as they concentrate on Christmas. The illustrations include angels, animals, birds, Christmas decorations and trees, churches, fireplaces, ornaments, snow scenes, and the nativity to name a few. Eight pages have written out Bible verses within the drawings.
~ Why ~
As an artist, I know coloring or being creative can help relieve stress, especially during the Christmas hustle-bustle. I like that the designs are well defined and easy to interpret. It is thoughtful the book includes crafts that could be cut out and used as gift tags, ornaments, bookmarks, and Christmas cards.
~ Why Not ~
Those who do not care for coloring or doodling will pass on this type of book. Some may not like that there are only a couple of pictures of Jesus being born and no drawings of the shepherds or kings visiting our Savior. Due to the paper quality, gel pens, watercolors, and felt tip markers may bleed through to the other side, but colored pencils and crayons may not.
~ Who ~
With a background in social work, Mead is an artist who has studied fine art and loves to create joyful depictions of life. She lives in Georgia with her husband.
~ Wish ~
I wish the designs were printed on thicker, one-sided paper so the medium such as inks, paints, or gel pens would not bleed. It would be helpful if the pages were perforated or printed further out from the binding so they could be removed and framed as gifts.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for an adult coloring book that centers on Christmas, this may work for you, but I expected more scenes that included Jesus and thicker paper.
