~ What ~
This unnumbered eighty-page oversized paperback targets those eight years old or older, especially those who like coloring pictures of creation, plants, animals, birds, outer space and Adam and Eve while noting Bible verses from Genesis.

In this broad collection, hand-drawn illustrations are included on both sides of the pages. Starting with Genesis 1:1, depictions of the cosmos and each following day of creation are inserted. With a Bible verse written out every few pages, it also has Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, their temptation by the serpent, and God banishing them.

~ Why ~
With a broad range of subjects of creation and the beauty of the Garden of Eden, the works of art show many plants, trees, insects, birds, animals, and sea creatures. I like how there are different levels of easy to complex drawings to fill in and personalize. Be it a simple page of blades of grass, spiders, or a peacock, rhino, or tiger, also added are detailed scenes of the garden and its gates or naked but discretely shown Adam and Eve.

~ Why Not ~
Able to use a variety of coloring tools such as colored pencils or gel pens, my concern as an artist is that any water- or alcohol- based ink such as paint or markers will bleed through the pages to the other side. Also, the pictures go to the edge of the binding, so they are hard to lay flat to work on and not perforated to remove like other coloring books. Some illustrations cover both open pages, again making them hard to remove and match their edges.

~ Who ~
No information is provided on the illustrator.

~ Wish ~
I wish these beautiful designs were only on one side of the page so they could be removed, framed, and given as gifts. It would also be helpful for the book to lie flat, have removable pages, and not cover two opened pages.

~ Want ~
If you like coloring books that focus mainly on the creation and the Garden of Eden with Bible verses, this is a viable option.

  1. Beautiful! I think I or my granddaughter either one would enjoy this. She has wonderful coloring ability for a six year old. I’ve even been contemplating letting her color a page in my Inspire Bible.

  2. Keep your eye out, Gail – their will be a contest for this one!
