I Love You Just BecauseTitle: I Love You Just Because
Author: Donna Keith
Illustrator: Alison Edgson
Publisher: Tommy Nelson
ISBN: 978-0-7180-8853-8

“At bedtime, Panda, Brown, and Polar hear their Poppa say a prayer of thanks to God for all the blessings of the day. He thanks God for the joy each cub brings to this family and just how special God has made each of their cubs to be,” Donna Keith ends her children’s book,  I Love You Just Because.

~ What ~
Third book in the series, this twenty-page padded board book targets children ages four to eight years old who enjoy stories about a family of bears, love, and God. Using the International Children’s Bible, it has four rhyming lines on one side of the open pages with a Bible verse written regarding the topic on the same or adjacent page. With multiple-syllable and a few hard-to-comprehend words, the book would best be read out loud to beginner readers. Differences in their personality, interaction with others, features, characteristics, and dreams are mentioned, each showing how individually they will always be loved.

~ Why ~
Using the different colors and types of bears, the book shows that no matter what color, size, age, or feature, you are loved by God and others. I like how the pictures are engaging and detailed enough to keep a young child’s attention.

~ Why Not ~
Those who do not believe in Christ or have a personal relationship with Him will probably avoid this book with its written out Bible verses on every other page.  Some of the Scripture stated does not directly correlate to the topics, but the meanings may be understood and could be discussed further.

~ Who ~
Living in Missouri with her husband, Keith is a retired English teacher and grandmother who was inspired by her daughter’s interracial family to write this series. No information is offered on the illustrator.

~ Wish ~
It would help if some of the complicated wording were easier to understand for the younger listeners.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a children’s book that shows we are different but loved by God and others, this is a viable option that encourages acceptance and unconditional love.
