“The biblical values, morals, and life lessons found in each Berenstain title are invaluable throughout every stage of their lives,” the back jacket states in Jan and Mike Berenstain’s book, The Berenstain Bears’ Caring and Sharing Treasury.

~ What ~
Part of the Berenstain Bears / Living Lights series, this unnumbered one-hundred-sixty-page hardbound targets child four to eight years old, especially those that like short stories of the well-known family of bears. With no profanity or scary scenes, the story has colorful, expressive illustrations on every page. Due to some complicated wording, it would best be read out loud to beginner readers.

While most of the series are individual paperback books, this one contains five stories focusing on teaching children how God wants them to live every day. Those tales included are Jobs Around Town, Get Involved, Love Their Neighbors, Gossip Gang, and The Biggest Brag.

~ Why ~
This is a caring collection of books as it hones in on explaining different vocations, how to get involved in a community, befriending those who are different, and learning not to gossip and brag through the bear family. I like that each story has a page at the back of three to four discussion questions and one to three activities related to its theme.

~ Why Not ~
With the book not having a table of contents or page numbers, it is hard to go to a particular story (a blank colored page separates each one). Because of this, some may not realize there are additional pages at the back of the book to simulate conversation further.

~ Who ~
Since Stan and Jan passed away years ago, their son Mike continues to follow in his parents’ footsteps with the Berenstain Bear series and products. He lives in Pennsylvania.

~ Wish ~
I wish the book had a table of contents and page numbers to make it easier on the parent reading, knowing how many pages each story is in advance.

~ Want ~
If you like the Berenstain Bears series, this one will make a thoughtful collector’s series of five books in a hardbound format.
