“Inside these pages is an attempt to capture a portion of these wonders on paper, so you can apply your own sense of color, design, and inspiration,” the introduction states in the coloring book, Wonders of Creation: Illustrations to Color and Inspire.
~ What ~
This unnumbered ninety-six-page paperback targets those eight years old or older, especially those who like creatively coloring animals, insects, and birds. After a short introduction that mentions God, over ninety hand-made drawings are included on both sides of the pages.
With this eclectic assortment, there are both simplistic one animal designs to full land and sea scenes with plants, trees, and flowers. Animals are from tiny bees, ants, and butterflies to crabs, frogs on lily pads, fish swimming, squirrels, flamingos, koalas, and walruses.
~ Why ~
This is a wide assortment of common to unique animals that have interesting patterns and designs to fill in any way the artist wants. I like that there are so many options from one turtle to a flock of birds or a horse in a desert.
~ Why Not ~
Able to use a variety of coloring tools such as colored pencils or gel pens, my concern as an artist is that any water- or alcohol- based ink such as paint or markers will bleed through the pages to the other side. Also, the pictures go to the edge of the glued binding, so they are hard to lay flat to work on and not perforated to remove like other coloring books. Some illustrations cover both open pages, again making them hard to remove and match their edges.
~ Who ~
No information is provided on either illustrator.
~ Wish ~
I wish these beautiful designs were only on one side of the page so they could be removed, framed, and given as gifts. It would also be helpful for the book to lie flat, have removable pages, and not cover two opened pages.
~ Want ~
If you like adult coloring books that focus mainly on animals and birds in nature, this is a viable option.
