“Each of the 365 simple daily devotions are filled with Scripture and prayer perfect for young children,” states the back of one of Zonderkidz children’s pack that includes The Beginner’s Bible Holy Bible and The Beginner’s Bible Kid-Sized Devotions.
Part of the Beginner’s Bible series, this combination includes a New International Reader’s Version of the Holy Bible and a yearly devotional that targets ages six to ten years old. The Bible is a standard version with a large font, including almost a dozen full-page, full-color illustrations taken from the series.
The devotional is under four hundred pages, dedicating one page to each day of a year. The top of the page has a short written out Bible verse, followed by the day number and a title. One or two short paragraphs reflect on the verse, and a small picture correlates to it. A one-line colored insert is included on the page as well as a one sentence prayer at the bottom.
~ Why ~
While not all children can understand the Bible, this set enables young ones to have their Bible and devotional like their parents. I like the shortness of the daily devotional that may need to be read out loud to beginner readers.
~ Why Not ~
Having reviewed this Bible previously, the paper is thin, so words do bleed through the pages, which some may not like. Some kids may only want to read the devotional, not realizing the impact of reading God’s Word daily too.
~ Who ~
Mentioning that Pulley is the illustrator for the devotional, there is no information included regarding the editor, so it is assumed Zonderkidz owns all rights.
~ Wish ~
I wish all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for a Bible and daily devotional for a young child, this set may be considered. I found the devotional apropos for the age range.
