A Believe Devotional for Kids: Think, Act, Be Like Jesus: 90 DevotionsTitle: Think, Act, Be Like Jesus

Illustrator: Steve Adams
Publisher: Zonderkids

“Yes, our Heavenly Father wants to hear from us. He wants us to be open and honest with him. He cares about our hurts and disappointments,” Randy Frazee writes in his children’s book, Think, Act, Be Like Jesus.

~ What ~
At one-hundred-and-ninety-two pages, this hardbound targets children ages eight to twelve years old. The book is meant to be read as a devotional over a ninety-day period, focusing on thinking, acting, and being like Jesus. The New International Reader’s Version of the Holy Bible is referenced. After a presentation page, the table of contents pages includes themes, verses used, and page numbers; there is no index at the end.

Divided into three sections, thirty-three days are devoted Think, forty cover Act, and seventeen are on Be. Each devotion covers two pages: the left side begins a topic and a written out Bible verse. Several paragraphs cover the topic, ending with a prayer. Full-color illustrations grace almost every other page.

~Why ~
Teaching young ones to read Scripture daily is important, and this is a good start for those interested in a devotional that will stimulate the mind. I like the various themes involving topics such as salvation, identity in Christ, stewardship, single-mindedness, Biblical community, sharing faith, joy, self-control, patience, and humility to name a few.

~ Why Not ~
Without forcing a preteen to read the Bible, many may not appreciate this to-the-point devotional that adults can also understand. Unfortunately, there will be those who will not want to read it unless he or she has a personal relationship with Jesus and is seeking to know Him better.

~ Who ~
Author Frazee is the senior minister at a church in Texas and has written several books including one with his wife. They have four children and one grandchild. No information is available on illustrator Adams.

~ Wish ~
I wish all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence. It would be thoughtful to note biographies on the author and illustrator and have a topical index in the back.

~ Want ~
If you are looking for a three-month devotional for a tween who wants to dive deeper into Christ and His love, grace, and character, this would be an excellent choice.
