“An honest and close reading of the Islamic holy texts and traditions reveal that Muhammad would not only join the Islamic State, but he would lead it,” Craig A. Evans and Jeremiah J. Johnston write in their book, Jesus and the Jihadis: Confronting the Rage of ISIS, the Theology driving the Ideology.

~ What ~
This one-hundred-and seventy-six-page paperback targets those interested in learning about Islam and their rapidly growing Islamic State. Using mainly the Revised Standard Version of the Holy Bible, the NLT, ESV, and NET are also referenced.

After an introduction, a dozen chapters discuss the topic, ending with a conclusion and special report by Harry R. Gorham. The contents include the Abrahamic Covenant of the Old Testament four thousand years ago, Muhammad’s seventh-century “correction” of the Bible, Martin Luther’s viewpoint of Islam, and the Islamic State’s military history. Examining the differences of how Islam considers Jesus as a respected prophet who is not the Son of God, who was not crucified on the cross for our sins and rise the third day, also mentioned are their ideas on the future return of Christ.

~ Why ~
Not knowing much about ISIS, Muhammad, and the beginnings of Islam, I was intrigued to learn more about this religion. Any Jew or Christian is considered a Kafir (unbeliever). Quotes are added from the Qur’an promoting Muslims to fight against their enemies compared to Jesus teaching to love and be compassionate to others. With Islam being the second most populous religion and ISIS being the wealthiest terrorist group in the world, it is important to know what they believe.

~ Why Not ~
Some individuals (including Christians and Muslims) may not want to know the differences and correlations of Islam and Christianity in today’s world.

~ Who ~
Professor with a PhD, Evans has regularly appeared on many television documentaries and specials and has authored and edited over fifty books. Doctor Johnston is a New Testament scholar, teacher, apologist, and speaker. Both live in Texas.

~ Wish ~
I wish all pronouns of God and Jesus were capitalized for reverence.

~ Want ~
If you want to learn about Islam, the Islamic State, Muhammad, and the Qur’an as they relate to Christianity, Jesus, and the Bible, this is an excellent beginner’s resource that breaks it down into comparisons and differences.
