“Every girl can have terrific tresses. It’s all about embracing the mane you were born with, then treating it with TLC,” the editors of Faithgirlz write in their book, Best Hair Book Ever!
~ What ~
This one-hundred-and-twenty-eight-page paperback targets girls eight to twelve years old but can be applied to any woman’s age group. As a collection of hair designs, it comes complete with color photographs and instructions. Although it is published by a Christian organization, it contains no religious references.
In this eight chapter book, young girls are shown many ways to style their hair for different occasions. After the first chapter on how to decide hair type, texture, and care, the second chapter explains four face shapes with tips for the best cut. The remaining six chapters cover five styles each for school, summer, sporty, weekend, party, and braid designs.
~ Why ~
This book immediately caught my eye as it is filled with so much information about hairstyles and keeping one’s hair healthy, starting at the preteen age. With over thirty designs to choose from, the book gives the reader written instructions on how to get the style she wants. The added perks in the book are the many tips that include having perfect hair for picture day, and recipes for a salt spray texturizer, custom dry shampoo, and DIY hair mask.
Why Not ~
Visual girls may not like the numbered paragraph directions and may prefer step-by-step tutorial thumbnail photos of what to do next.
~ Who ~
Stating the book is written by editors, the back page mentions producer Kelsey Haywood, styler Jessica D’Argenio Waller, designer Chun Kim, and cover photographer Sean Scheidt. There is a list of other photographers, hair and makeup artists, interns, and clothing and apparel designers.
~ Wish ~
It would be helpful if there was an index in the back of the book so one would look up different styles of hair designs.
~ Want ~
If you are looking for a book that has a plethora of hair styles for young girls which some can be adapted to older women, this is a good source.
