~ What ~
Part of the Berenstain Bears / Living Lights series, this unnumbered thirty-page padded paperback targets children four to eight years old, especially those that like short stories from the Bible depicted by bears. With a total of eight stories from the Old and New Testaments, it contains simple sentence structures with a few multi-syllable words that may be more complicated for beginner readers.

With no profanity or scary scenes, each story has colorful, expressive illustrations on every page. The wording is easy to decipher in a black font at the bottom of every page.

~ Why ~
Wanting to show my grandchild a book that introduces the Bible, this book has two to four page stories of short sentences that include creation, Noah’s ark, David and Goliath, Daniel in the lions’ den, Jesus’s birth, the good Samaritan, Jesus entering Jerusalem, and His resurrection.
I noticed the lions looked contented, and there was no crucifixion scene. There was plenty of detail in the illustrations for toddlers to view.

~ Why Not ~
With the book focusing on the Bible, there are two areas of concern. It reads that God asked Noah for help, yet some may interpret that God needs help, and He does not. Also, it states soldiers hurt Jesus, not that He died on the cross for our sins. It shows the tomb opened on resurrection day. Knowing young children cannot understand fully the concept of eternal salvation, I know this is a hard subject to explain.
~ Who ~
Since Stan and Jan passed away years ago, their son Mike continues to follow in his parents footsteps with the Berenstain Bear series and products. He lives in Pennsylvania.

~ Wish ~
Page numbers would be helpful for some readers learning their numbers.

~ Want ~
If you like the Berenstain Bears series, this one that has eight Bible stories is a good starting point to introduce young ones to the Bible. I hope my granddaughter will enjoy listening to it being read as she looks at the bears in all of the illustrations.
